Thanks for the Evans discography tips. I"ll have to check those out. I saw the trio once, in Evanston, IL , summer of 1977( the week Elvis passed).
Have you heard the tapes his son released of rehearsals and practicing, including Bill playing Bach Preludes and Fugues?

Nardis
I lucked out last night at Half-Price books. Found a cheap( SACD) copy of Bill Evans’ Explorations, a studio session with Scott LaFaro, and Paul Motion. I’d never had the pleasure of listening to this before. One of the tunes on this recording is Nardis. While driving down the highway it occurre...

In regards to the two chord progressions, you could treat each chord vertically or you could write a melody using the C major scale (horizontally). I don’t think it is a prerequisite that all those chords share all the notes in the C major scale. As it turns out there just happen to be several not...

Hi John, For starters, be patient. As you can deduce from skimming the book, there is much work to be done. In addition to practicing the material on your instrument it is important to play it on piano so you can hear the various vertical entities the LCC presents. You don’t necessarily need ‘ch...

I don’t think of a’ chord progression in the Mixolydian mode’ (BTW The term ‘Lydian’ is the only modal term that the LCC has in common with tradition theory nomenclature). This kind of thinking is similar to saying that the Major Scale has a certain chord progression. Check out page 81 of ...

There are many important musicians who had direct contact with George Russell, like Miles Davis, Steve Swallow, Eric Dophy, Bill Evans, and Denny Zeitlin. This list could certainly be expanded greatly. There are others, such as Pat Metheny, who have acknowledged studying the Concept in their formati...
