Look at at the intervals in relationship to the tonal orders,,7 tone, 9tone..etc.
Hopefully this will shed some light on the interval tonic idea. With c up to eb:
Eb is in the 9 tone order in relating to a C LT , but C is in a 7 tone, ingoing order in related to an Eb LT. The most ingoing wins!

"For clarification, are you saying GR designates Eb as the root of a C minor triad? I think I need a clarification of terms. What are the distinctions among the terms: root, tonic, center of tonal gravity, Lydian tonic, or bass note re the triad? I realize that these distinctions can be controv...

"-If one follow GR, is the 'root' of a minor triad the b3rd?"

GR would say that in Vertical Tonal Gravity, the b3rd is the center of Tonal Gravity for a minor chord. Thus the b3rd, Lydian Tonic, rests above the Modal Tonic( the root of the chord).

Post away! I'm enjoying your insights and I can't wait to examine Bird and Diz more closely. Is it the take of Groovin' High on the the Yardbird Suite two disc set? http://www.amazon.com/Yardbird-Suite-Ultimate-Charlie-Parker/dp/B0000033PW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-4890467-9624728?ie=UTF8&s=music&...

You may find another mistake or two in the book. Hopefully this won’t diminish your appreciation for the Concept. BTW According to this website(http://ancienthistory.about.com/library/weekly/aa052698.htm) di- can mean two( and yes you are right, it appears to be of Greek derivation) Assuming it do...

The Concept uses interval tonics. This is part of Tonal Gravity( the cornerstone of the whole shebang). There is a chart early in the book related to this. I don't have the book handy but I'll look it up and get back.

"At minimum, as long as long as I play the root on 1(chords at one per measure), I can play any notes in between. "
Who says you have to even play the root? You would be making new root motion.

Once the Lydian tonic is established the bass player could spontaneously reharmonize in real time (if the piano/guitar is playing or not playing the right voicings).

to Be or not to Bop

I picked up my copy of Dizzy Gillespie’s memoirs, to Be or not to Bop, and found the following quote about George at the bottom of page 323;â€
